Complete tasks 1-8 to be prepared for this unit of the stage two exam.

Task 1

Practice fitting equipment on the horse for travelling, including:

  1. a leather headcollar.
  2. a poll guard.
  3. a cooler rug.
  4. a tail guard.

Task 2

Practice:

  1. putting travel boots on all four of the horse's legs.
  2. removing travel boots.

Task 3

Practice:

  1. preparing the tail before putting on a tail bandage.
  2. putting on a tail bandage (do not leave a tail bandage on for any length of time until an instructor has checked you are bandaging at the correct tension).
  3. removing a tail bandage.

Tasks 4

Practice preparing:

  1. a horsebox prior to travelling.
  2. a trailer prior to travelling.

Task 5

Assist someone experienced with travelling horses to:

  1. load an equine into a horsebox.
  2. unload an equine from a horsebox.

Task 6

Assist someone experienced with travelling horses to:

  1. load an equine into a trailer.
  2. unload an equine from a front unloading trailer.
  3. unload an equine from a rear unloading trailer.

Task 7

Practice:

  1. Loading different equines into a horsebox.
  2. Unloading different equines from a horsebox.

Until you are well rehearsed, someone experienced should observe you.

Task 8

Practice:

  1. Loading different equines into a trailer.
  2. Unloading different equines from a front unloading trailer.
  3. Unloading different equines from a rear unloading trailer.

Until you are well rehearsed, someone experienced should observe you.

NOTE: Before taking this unit of the BHS stage 2 exam, ask a BHS instructor to observe and test you on tasks 1-8.
