In the exam, to keep you and the horse safe, you will be expected to follow this procedure when removing the tack.

Step 1

Standing on the nearside of the horse, undo the girth.

Step 2

Carefully place the girth down.

Do not let it drop and hit the horse’s legs.

Step 3

Correctly go around the front of the horse to the offside.

Step 4

Place the girth on top of the saddle.

Step 5

Return back to the nearside, around the front of the horse’s head.

Step 6

Carefully remove the saddle from the horse’s back.

Step 7

Place the saddle on a saddle stand or in an appropriate area, outside of the stable, away from horses.

Step 8

Come back in the stable and shut the door.

Undo the quick release knot, leaving the rope threaded through the string.

Step 9

Push the reins forward and put the headcollar around the horse’s neck.

Step 10

Correctly remove the bridle.

Step 11

With the bridle over your arm, refit the headcollar.

Re-tie the horse back up.
