Once you have completed Horse Health you will be able to:

  1. Discuss and have practical knowledge about the horse's vital signs, including:

    • temperature.

    • pulse. 

    • respiration. 

    • additional vital signs to aid health. 

  2. Make detailed health records. 

  3. Discuss the purpose of Equine Passports. 

  4. Talk about the methods different health care professionals use to treat horses, including:

    • Physiotherapist.

    • Chiropractor.

    • Osteopath.

    • Acupuncture.

  5. Discuss the main reasons a horse may require treatment from a practitioner.

  6. Explain and have knowledge about various health conditions, including:

    • Strangles.

    • Ringworm.

    • Equine Influenza.

    • Tendon injuries.

    • Equine Rhabdomyolysis Syndrome (Azoturia).

    • Lymphangitis.

    • Bone conditions & bursal enlargements.

    •  Colic.

    • Laminitis.

    • Recurrent airway obstruction.

    • PPID (Cushing's Disease).

    • Equine metabolic syndrome.

    • Atypical myopathy.

  7. Talk about biosecurity, including:

    • how diseases spread. 

    • the isolation procedure for a sick or new horse. 

  8. Discuss lameness, including methods veterinarians may use to diagnose. 

  9. Assess a lame horse.
