Once you have completed Clipping the Horse you will be able to:

  1. Discuss the reasons for clipping a horse, including:

    • when to clip a horse. 

    • when a horse should not be clipped. 

    • how to choose a suitable clip for each equine. 

  2.  Explain how to remain safe whilst clipping, including:

    • PPE. 

    • security of the horse. 

    • suitable environment for clipping. 

    • maintaining safety of the electrical equipment.

  3. Talk about the equipment required for clipping, including the different clippers available to use. 

  4. Recognise and name the different types of clips.

  5. Prepare the horse and equipment for clipping. 

  6. Assemble the clippers correctly. 

  7. Discuss the responsibilities of the assistant and person clipping.

  8. Handle difficult equines whilst clipping and know suitable methods of restraints to use.  

  9. Use the clipper correctly and clip each area of the horse's body correctly.

  10. Care for the horse and equipment during clipping.

  11. Apply safe practices whilst clipping a horse.

  12. Care for the equipment after clipping.  

  13. Care for the horse immediately after being clipped.

  14. Provide after care of the clipped horse.
