How To Skip Out a Straw Bed

Step 1

Place the pitch fork directly under the droppings, also picking up some of the bedding beneath. This will prevent the droppings falling through the gaps in the pitch fork.


Step 2

Tip the fork, on an angle, allowing the droppings to fall off the bedding into a skip bucket or wheelbarrow.

Do not put the bedding into the wheelbarrow (there should be limited, or no, bedding removed when skipping out).


Step 3

Replace the bedding, on the fork, back onto the bed.

Repeat for the other droppings.


Step 4

Level and neaten up the bed and bankings.

Tidy up any loose hay on the floor, and then sweep the area of the stable without bedding. Make sure the horse has the correct quantity of hay.

Check the water for cleanliness and amount.
