How To Oil the Hooves

Oiling the hooves is completed at the end of grooming, it is done for appearance usually for a competition or show. To prevent the hoof wall drying out and becoming brittle, especially if competing regularly, always use hoof oil with added moisture.

Step 1

Pick out the hooves.

Using clean water and brush, scrub the hoof wall and the sole of the foot with clean.


Step 2

Pick up the hoof and paint around the heels area (this will give it a more finished look).


Step 3

Put the hoof on the floor and paint around the front of the hooves – be careful not to miss any areas!


Step 4

Repeat on the other hooves.
