Whilst grooming be careful not to bang the bony areas, on the horse's body, with the hard part of the brush. Make sure you observe the equine's mood when brushing ticklish or sensitive spots, such as the flanks or belly.

Correct Hand for Grooming

On the nearside, use your left hand for grooming.

On the offside, use your right hand for grooming.


Step 1

Start at the horse’s neck, following the hair growth, use the appropriate brush to groom that area.


Step 2

Following the hair growth, brush their barrel and belly area with the appropriate brush.


Step 3

Following the hair growth, groom their flanks and quarters with the appropriate brush.


Step 4

Repeat on the other side of the horse.
