Travel equipment should be stored and cared for correctly to ensure it is long lasting. Fitting dirty equipment can cause sores and rubs on the horse's skin, or make them dirty (if you have spend a long time preparing a horse for a show and then use dirty equipment all your hard work will be wasted!). All the equipment should ideally be stored together so it is easily accessible. Any equipment in poor repair must not be used.

NOTE: Most equipment can be put in the washing machine on a 30-40 degree wash, always use non-biological washing powder and follow specific manufactures guidelines. Specialised wash bags can be purchased to put items in to prevent hair and dirt damaging your washing machine. Local rug washing companies offer washing and repairing for any larger or damaged items.

Leather headcollar:

• Care: it should be cleaned with saddle soap and oiled after use. Check the stitching is in good condition.
• Repairs: If the stitching needs repairing speak to your local saddler.
• Storing: it should be stored in a vermin proof box.

Travel Rug:

• Care: it should be washed and dried (following manufactures guidelines). Check the buckles and material are in good condition.
• Repairs: you can either stitch the rug yourself using a strong needle and cotton, or generally your local rug washing company will offer a repairs service.
• Storing: it should be stored in a vermin proof box or hung on a rug rack.

Travel Bandages and fibergee: 

• Care: they should be washed and dried after use (following manufactures guidelines). The bandages should be re-rolled ready for the next use.
• Repair: bandages and fibergee should be replaced if they become damaged.
• Storing: they should be stored in a vermin proof box.

Travel Boots: 

• Care: washed and dried after use, or when necessary (following manufactures guidelines).
• Repair: you can either stitch the boot yourself using a strong needle and cotton, or generally your local rug washing company will offer a repairs service.
• Storing: they should be stored in a vermin proof box or some companies send a bag with the boots for storage.

Tail bandages/guard:

• Care: it should be washed and dried after use (following manufactures guidelines). The bandage should be re-rolled ready for the next use.
• Repair: bandages and tail guards should be replaced if they become damaged.
• Storing: it should be stored in a vermin proof box.

Poll Guard: 

• Care: Wipe over with a damp cloth.
• Repair: the poll guard should be replaced if it becomes damaged.
• Storing: it should be stored in a vermin proof box.
